A Night of Food and Fire

Headed out of town this weekend and spent Friday night camping near the Citico Creek Wilderness Area in the Cherokee National Forest. It was nice to sit back, enjoy the spring weather and revel in an evening of food and fire. Nothing much better than the first spring trip, with plenty of time around the campfire to keep warm during the cool nights and plenty of sunshine to warm up the days.

Though relaxing did take up most of my time, I did manage to sneak in a quick 5 mile run on some forest roads.

I was really impressed by the amazing amount of road running that could be done in the area. As an added bonus the roads were flat with minimal traffic (minus one rogue ford truck), and the creek along the road was pretty impressive. It was so flat, in fact, that Caitlin even thought it was worth a try.

Running in a new place is always exciting, especially when you're getting to try out new gear. I just picked up a pair of New Balance 101's on Thursday and have been super impressed. They're light (7.6oz) and so far I have no complaints (which is saying a lot).

  1. That guy in the ford probably just got back from some crazy coked out binge in Mexico...he's definitely the exception out there. (Likely to be taken out by Lime Disease I bet)
